The tune is from the folk song collection of reverent Bjarni Þorsteinsson, written down by Konrad Maurer, a German scholar who travelled around Iceland in the year 1858. The poem is from a play by Jóhann Sigurjónsson about the outlaws Fjalla - Eyvindur and Halla from the year 1912. Halla asks her child to sleep whilst outside the rain cries and the glaciers moan.
