The music is from the collection of the Dane A. P. Berggreen. „Folksange og melodier". He collected the songs from far and wide, including nine folksongs from Iceland. The words are by Jóhann Jónsson, who originates from Snæfellsnes but died at a young age from tuberculosis in Germany. The poem tells of the raven, who flies late at night and is seen as the harbinger of sadness and death.
